* Saint John Regional Hospital, 100 Tucker Park Road, hosts the Dr. Alexander Leighton Memorial Lecture at 5:30 p.m. This is the first of a new series of lectures on psychiatric epidemiology and community mental health presented by MindCare. * There will be a Shakespeare Festival at St. Malachy's Memorial High School in Saint John, from Oct. 9-11. This year's festival will feature William Shakespeare's play Alls Well that Ends Well. The Shakespeare Festival is presented by the Shakespeare Society of Saint John. For details, call 674-2240.
* The third Annual Scarecrow Trails creations will be on display until Oct. 26 along the trails at the Arts & Culture Park in Quispamsis. Some are classic, others unusual and some a bit scary too. Drop by and have a peek.

* The world premiere of Canada's newest full-length ballet King Lear comes to Moncton's Capitol Theatre today and Saturday, at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John on Oct. 18 and The Playhouse in Fredericton on Oct. 25. With the combined talents of several actors, Shakespeare's masterpiece is brought alive on the stage. King Lear is a dark and gripping story of pride, betrayal and treachery, with classic roots and themes that resonate with modern day audiences. * Country music star Carrie Underwood comes Harbour Station in Saint John at 7:30 p.m. featuring Little Big Town as her special guest. Her first album, Some Hearts, was the best selling album by an American Idol contestant and the best selling solo female debut album in country music history. Her second album, Carnival Ride, has so far sold three million copies and has produced three number one country hits, So Small, All-American Girl and Last Name. Call 657-12234 for details.
