Rogers seeking to expand Hampton service with new tower

Rogers is proceeding to consultation with a proposal for a tower it says would expand wireless service to Hampton.

Hampton council discussed the proposal from Scott Telecom Services to place a 37-metre monopole communications tower for Rogers Wireless at William Bell Drive at its meeting March 12. According to a staff report, the tower’s location was chosen to enhance service in areas with poor coverage, and will increase coverage in areas like St. Paul’s Street, Kennebecasis Road, Lakeside, Route 121 and Hall/Robertson Road.

“We’re committed to delivering a reliable, consistent wireless experience and are looking to enhance our network in the Hampton area to provide more seamless coverage for residents, businesses and emergency responders,” Rogers said in a statement Tuesday from spokesperson Laura Crochetiere. “We’re continuing to work closely with the local community to ensure our services, equipment and design meet their needs.”

The report says Rogers first reached out and had a site meeting in February of last year, and the application was completed March 5 of this year. It complies with Hampton’s antenna siting policy and aligns with the municipal plan, the report said. The proposal is proceeding to consultation under the policy as the tower is 105 metres from the nearest residential area.

“The Rogers tower came to us again with another proposal location-wise, all we did was basically let them start the process,” said Mayor Bob Doucet said last week.

Crochetiere said they’ve been working with Hampton council on the location, which would provide coverage to the town and parts of Highway 1.
