Hachey, Aziz win weekly honours

SAINT JOHN - Scott Hachey, a fifth-year psychology major from Quispamsis, is the UNBSJ nominee for ACAA male athlete of the week. Hachey scored three important goals in two recent soccer games and has six this season, good enough for second in the league scoring. Stephanie Aziz, a second-year arts student from Calgary, is the UNBSJ nominee for ACAA female athlete of the week. Aziz scored two goals in a recent game, keeping the Seawolves' playoff hopes alive.

Sussex soars past Saint John

SAINT JOHN - Sussex defeated the Saint John Outlaw Greyhounds 44-0 in bantam football action. Ryan Williams scored four touchdowns while Robert Dunfield tallied two majors. Chad White added a major and two conversions. In peewee action, Sussex outlasted the K.V. Raiders 22-18. Marty McKenna scored two touchdowns for Sussex while Nathan Brown scored one major for the winners. Jacob Pambrun notched two conversions for Sussex. Lucas Shannon led K.V. with two touchdowns and Brody Fillmore added one major.

Fencing

Marcoux top Canadian in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sixteen-year-old Carson Marcoux of the Aux Quatre Vents Club in Dalhousie was the only Canadian in men's sabre to make the top eight at the first North American Cup circuit fencing event of the season in Columbus, Ohio on Thanksgiving weekend. His sixth-place performance out of a field of 130 moves him from second to first place in the national team selection rankings for under-17 sabre. Sixteen-year-old Michael Dobbelsteyn from the Damocles Fencing Club of Fredericton also competed in Ohio. He finished 17th out of 110 in division 3 men's epee, 39th out of 113 in division 2 men's foil and 85th out of 115 in under-17 men's epee. Marcoux and Dobbelsteyn will be joined by Damocles fencer Justin LeClair later this month in Montreal for the Junior World Cup.

Lalonde advances to 1,500m final

PUNE, India -- Moncton track and field standout Genevieve Lalonde finished fourth in a women's 1,500 metre semifinal heat Monday to advance to the final late Tuesday at the Commonwealth Youth Games. Lalonde finished her heat in four minutes and 25.66 seconds. The first four finishers in each heat, along with the top four times after that, advanced to the final. Lalonde is the only Atlantic Canadian on the Canadian team at the Games. The 17-year-old will also race in the women's 3,000 metre final Thursday.
