Audi's new S4 and S4 Avant to run supercharged V6 engines
Published Thursday October 9th, 2008

Audi enthusiasts have been anticipating information on the upcoming high-performance S4 model since the recent redesign of the new A4 model on which it's based. Audi broke the news last week, announcing that they would unveil a new S4 publicly at the Paris auto show later this month.
An update was due for the brand's sports car lineup, and it looks Audi's set to step things up a notch or two. Available in S4 and S4 Avant models, the new performance enhanced sedan or wagon will be powered by a new engine and backed up by a new selection of impressive technologies.
A new 3.0 litre V6 engine is employed in favor of the former 4.2 litre V8. The engine is supercharged, and generates about 333 horsepower. Audi says the supercharger is superior to a twin turbo setup in terms of packaging and performance. Direct injection is also utilized, improving mileage and power. Owners can expect 0-60 runs around 5 seconds, with an electronically-capped top speed of 250 km/h.
Expect options like a new 7-speed S-Tronic transmission with shift paddles and lightning-fast gear changes, as well as an active Quattro system with driver-selectable performance modes.
Deliveries begin this spring.
