WARMINGTON: Pusha T brawl another violent incident surrounding Drake
Article content
Pusha T had some nerve coming to Toronto and dissing our 6ix God.
But he had every right to do so.
He may be rude and jealous of Toronto’s own Drake, but free speech allows the American rapper to stand on stage at the Danforth Music Hall and diss him all night long.
And, as he has done before by outing Drake’s love child and alleging his songs came from ghostwriters, Pusha T was at it again Tuesday.
What he didn’t count on was that some in the packed hall would take umbrage and try to shower him with water and beer.
All hell broke loose. Fights started in the crowd, on the stage and later out on the street.
One man was stabbed and is currently clinging to life.
All because of some stupid long-running feud between two rappers?
Pusha T was badmouthing Drake pretty hard just as this happened Tuesday.
“This n***a paid some n***a to throw beer, n***a!” he was quoted as saying from the stage by NBC News.
Others reported Pusha T alleged Drake purchased 200 tickets so he would have an army of supporters to heckle him.
Drake hasn’t responded publicly to Pusha T’s allegations.
Toronto Police are not ruling anything out, but so far there is nothing that I have seen to back any of that up.
“All avenues will be explored,” Const. David Hopkinson promised.
He said “it is possible” both artists could be interviewed by police.
At this point, we don’t know what role the stabbing victim played. Was he a Drake person or a Pusha T fan? Was he just caught in the middle?
If police do question these artists, they should be interviewed as Terrence LeVarr Thornton and Aubrey Drake Graham.
Those are their real names. They may be famous rappers, but they are not above the law.
If Drake actually ever does talk to police, it will be the first time — having refused to help cops in shootings and murders before.
It’s becoming farcical how a guy with a key to the city, and who has the prestigious title of ‘Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador,’ is treated with kid gloves.
But if you add up the victims, bullets and blood of people he’s connected with, it’s a lot.
With my crime reporter colleague Chris Doucette, we did just that Wednesday.
On Aug. 4, 2015, Duvel Hibbert, 23, and innocent bystander Ariela Navarro-Fenoy, 26 were shot to death at Drake’s OVO Fest after-party at Muzik nightclub.
On Sept. 14, 2017, Drake’s friend Anthony “Fif” Soares, 33, was gunned down in Scarborough.
On May 20, 2018, Jaiden Jackson, 28, of Toronto, was shot to death after leaving Drake’s Pick 6 bar at Yonge and Wellington.
On June 30, 2018, Jahvante Smart, aka Smoke Dawg, 21, a rapper who opened on Drake’s Boy Meets World European tour in 2017, and producer Ernest Modekwe, aka Koba Prime, 28, were shot to death in broad daylight in the Entertainment District after they were seen earlier driving Drake’s white Bentley.
In addition, Travis Savoury, a member of Drake’s entourage known as Baka Not Nice, 39, pleaded guilty in 2015 to assaulting a woman, and Quinton “Pressa” Gardiner, 21, charged in an April 19, 2016, shootout, kidnapping, torture and sexual assault on two teens at a Toronto condo, was allowed free on bail to go to Europe to tour with Drake.
If the guy stabbed at the Pusha T show dies, count that as seven dead with some sort of connection to Drake.
That’s a lot of bad stuff in and around Drake or his friends and enemies.
Some may feel I have some nerve to say it — but I am free to say it.
