The event, held March 21 at Nackawic High School, gave students the opportunity to experience and learn the many facets of sustainable agricultural practices.

Anglophone West School District engagement co-ordinator Valerie Carmichael said her goal is to give middle and high school students the opportunity to explore sustainable agricultural practices, as well as the varied agricultural career opportunities available to them.

“The exhibitors said they really appreciated the interaction and engagement of the students,” Carmichael said after the event.

She said each booth provided a unique offering, a different experience or opportunity to learn.

Carmichael said students had the opportunity to check out drones, engage in trivia challenges, plant seeds and plants to take home, use virtual reality to go fishing, grade eggs, see a weather station operation, learn about honey and apple production as well as the dairy trade.

She said the organizing group wanted the students to have a memorable, fun, learning experience that would spark an interest in a wide range of future career opportunities connected to NB Agriculture.

In total, around 550 students visited 20 Ag Sector exhibitors, each showcasing a wide variety of careers in the agriculture field.
