According to a news release from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the federal development department will put up $184,096 – an amount to be matched by the province and the Grand Falls Regional Municipality – to start the first phase of a “dynamic, year-round tourism and community destination” at the marina.

Plans include repairs to the main building and the restoration of riverbank access.

According to the release, that will lay the groundwork for the next phase, to put in a boardwalk and floating docks.

“The marina occupies an important place in the heart of the community and in our recreation and tourism development strategy, helping the Grand Falls Regional Municipality become a year-round tourist destination of choice,” Grand Falls Mayor Bertrand Beaulieu said in the release, thanking the federal and provincial departments that put up the funding.

The Grand Falls marina is the only public waterfront access in the area for boaters.
