Police say a thief caught red-handed fleeing a Hanwell church he’d just broken into threatened an officer with weapons before he was arrested.

RCMP said members in Keswick got the call about the break-in in progress on March 16 at about 10 p.m.

Within minutes, an officer arrived at the scene and intercepted a man who was in the process of fleeing,” the force said in a news release.

But when the officer tried to arrest him, it led to an altercation and to the threat, police said. The man was arrested when another officer arrived to help, according to the release.

Police said Arthur Rocha faces charges of break and enter as well as assaulting a police officer and threatening a police officer with a weapon, among other charges.
