The province says it has ended its monitoring program of all areas along the Saint John River basin as levels continue to decrease.

As a rare treat, not a single community flooded this spring. While some were forecast to do so, none actually reached flood level.

“Our good luck notwithstanding, the River Watch team was hard at work, and I would like to thank all our partners for their efforts,” Public Safety Minister Kris Austin said in a news release.

The program, that kicked off on March 12, provides information on the status of the river and the potential for ice jams and other flood issues during the ice-out and spring freshet season.

The province says the information gathered during the annual flood watch allows officials and the public to take necessary steps to keep their properties and themselves safe.

“I am proud of our Hydrology Centre team who worked diligently with key partners over the course of several weeks to carry out flood forecasting for New Brunswickers,” Austin said in the release. “Their efforts helped inform residents so they could plan accordingly for potential flooding.”
