Cirque du Soleil coming to Moncton June 13-16

Cirque du Soleil announced Monday it will bring its international musical show, Corteo, to Moncton’s Avenir Centre June 13-16 for seven performances.
In a news release, Cirque du Soleil said Corteo, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, was first performed in Montreal in 2005 and has since played to more than 10 million people in 20 countries on four continents. The Moncton shows will be presented at the Avenir Centre by Sun Life Global Investments.
Cirque du Soleil says the word Corteo means cortege in Italian and is a joyous procession or festive funeral parade, imagined by a clown.
“The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth,” the news release said. “The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels.”
The performance is meant to show the strength and fragility of the clown, along with his wisdom and kindness, illustrate the humanity within all of us. It features playful music to carry the cast into a celebration.

It said the set curtains are inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the central curtains were hand painted to provide a grandiose feel to the stage.

• Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 7 p.m.
• Friday, June 14, 2024 at 7 p.m.
• Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
• Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Tickets for Corteo in Moncton are available online for Club Cirque members at clubcirque.com. General admission tickets will go on sale Nov. 13.
