In a news release, DMCI said business improvement areas in the province received funding from the Department of Environment and Local Government. The Investment Initiative for Business Improvement Areas provides grants for cost-shared projects.

DMCI executive director Patrick Richard said the funding was used for the PatioFest 2023 event, the 2024-26 DMCI strategic plan and DMCI gift cards for the holiday season.

“This funding provided much needed support for our second annual PatioFest concert series, in which we hosted 13 artists on 13 different patios throughout the downtown, during this past June, July and August,” Richard said. “It has also helped cover our marketing and promotion expenses for our record-breaking Holiday Gift Card sale, this year, in which we sold almost $75,000 worth of Downtown Moncton Gift Cards, at 20 per cent off.”

Greg Turner, the MLA for Moncton South and minister responsible for Opportunities N.B., Economic Development and Small Business, said this type of funding can help business improvement areas drive their own growth.

Trina MacDonald, President of the Downtown NB Association, said all 24 business improvement areas in the province have received grants, which helped fund more than 45 projects.

“This funding from the province has benefited long-range planning projects, well-needed capitalinvestments as well as bringing special events, festivals, and cultural activities to help promotelocal businesses and tourism in the province,” MacDonald said in a news release.
