The Correctional Service of Canada issued a news release Sunday saying staff at the Dorchester Penitentiary’s minimum-security prison unit noticed Saturday at 8:35 p.m. that an inmate named Jermaine Brown wasn’t accounted for.

The correctional service contacted the RCMP immediately, and an arrest warrant was issued.

“At 10 p.m., the inmate was apprehended by police,” Émile Belliveau, assistant warden of management services, said in the release. “The correctional service will investigate the circumstances of this incident.”

Belliveau said ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public is the correctional service’s top priority.
