At the end of the first quarter, the town reported almost $25 million worth of building permits, highlighted by a $17.5-million industrial project, a 139,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse in the Scoudouc industrial park, the town said in a news release.

There were also 17 residential building permits valued at just over $1.36 million, $5 million in multi-residential permits and $261,743 for other industrial building permits.

This is a significant increase in all categories from the first quarter of 2023, when the town issued $925,828 in residential building permits, $220,000 for multi-residential, and $261,743 in industrial permits.

The increase in construction will help with the town’s goal of increasing its population, attracting local and outside investors, and maintaining services for the community.

“It is essential that the Town of Shediac maintain a good pace in its development, while ensuring a good balance of all aspects such as the environment and the economy,” Mayor Roger Caissie said in the news release.

Danny Pellerin, director of economic development and tourism, highlighted a new anglophone K-12 school in the Shediac area and continued construction on the Domaine Beauséjour and Domaine des Faisans subdivisions as projects that are contributing to the community’s growth.

“Our municipality is experiencing significant growth, and we must continue on this path, while placing our priority on those aspects that make Shediac one of the best places to live, work and do business,” said Caissie.
