Mayor Jean-Guy Levesque said the jobs were “lost in the shuffle” as the former city of Campbellton welcomed the former villages of Tide Head and Atholville in 2022 to create the Campbellton Regional Community at the start of 2023.

“It’s not that we didn’t have the money last year – not that we had a lot to spare – but it was more that we identified other things as a priority, such as unsightly premises and some bylaws,” Levesque said.

“But now we want to fill those jobs so that we can continue with our growth. I’ve been spending a lot of time down in Fredericton trying to get more money to help, we need these jobs filled so that we can continue to develop.”

The city recently posted four of those jobs to its website, which now includes an opening for fleet manager, engineer and treasurer, to name a few.

Levesque said the city has hired an outside firm to address the vacancies, the same one that found a new general manager for the Regional Memorial Civic Centre.

“They did a great job in finding us a new manager for the centre and we’re confident they will do the same with these other positions. We need, for example, a parks and recreation manager, which the former Campbellton has been without for two or three years now.”

Levesque said filling the positions will not only show residents that council is serious in moving into the future but also shows the city is committed to making the city a better place.

“We really do have one of the nicest little cities in the province and our goal is to make it even better. We want to continue with developing a sense of pride, when people see their council is proud to call their city home, they will be more proud as well.”

He said having a full complement of staff will aid in the growth, as will continued progress on files.

“We have said it over and over that a clean city is one in which people will have more pride. We will be continuing to work on the unsightly premises issue and increasing the opportunities for development.”
