Depending on the location, the cleanup starts the week of May 6 (Charlo) and runs weekly through the end of the month with Dalhousie the last area to see items such as bundles of yard materials picked up (May 31).

Large heavy items, such as appliances, will not be picked up so people should check the Recycle Restigouche Facebook page for more information.

Registration is now open for this year’s Salmon Festival road races.

Runners can take advantage of an early bird rate until May 1 after which the normal fees will be in effect. Like last year, three different races will be contested – a 1km race starting at 8 a.m., a 5km race starting at 9 a.m. and a 10km race starting at 8:45 a.m.

Luncheon next week

Survivors of the residential school system will be honoured an an upcoming meeting in Listuguj.

A luncheon for residential school and Indian day school survivors will be held on Wednesday, April 24 in Elders’ Lodge starting at noon.

A meal will be served and elders will be given the opportunity to discuss their stories and talk about the memorial the community is planning in their honour.

Council open house April 29

Campbellton city council is going on the road, so to speak.

It has organized a town hall type meeting for April 29 at the Alma Hall in the Atholville section of the community rather than meeting in council chambers in downtown Campbellton.

The meeting will feature Mayor Jean Guy Levesque and his council highlighting achievements or progress on various files since the new council was sworn in back in January 2023.

The meeting will take place on April 29 starting at 6:30 p.m.

When council held a public meeting in Atholville last summer, it was filled with people wanting more information on council’s vision and plans.
