Terry Soucy, 51, of Foster Ave. in Apohaqui, appeared through a lawyer Friday in Saint John Provincial Court. Soucy is charged with sexual exploitation, sexual touching and sexual assault against a Kings County girl under 10. The charges cover a time period from June 1 to Oct. 31, 2023.

The identity of the girl is protected by a publication ban.

In March, court heard that the RCMP was still performing additional investigative work. On Friday, Soucy’s lawyer Rod Macdonald told the court he had been handed Crown evidence disclosure just before the hearing and needed time to go over it. Judge Claude Hache rescheduled the case to May 3.

Soucy taught at the Two Rivers Karate Club in Apohaqui and was on Karate New Brunswick’s board of directors until the fall, when Karate NB said his term ended and the club closed. Soucy’s LinkedIn suggests he was also involved with Sussex Minor Hockey and Sussex Minor Baseball. Facebook posts indicate that he was Sussex Minor Hockey president from December 2022 until the time of his arrest in October 2023.

When asked whether he was still involved with the organization, Sussex Minor Baseball president Jason Nelson declined comment. Brunswick News has requested comment from Sussex Minor Hockey and is awaiting a response.
