Teens arrested in chemical irritant assault

Two teenagers – ages 15 and 16 – have been arrested in connection to an assault involving the use of a chemical irritant, city police report.

Saint John Police report on Tuesday evening, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an alleged assault that took place in the 500-block of Westmorland Road.

“Police arrived on scene and located a 19-year-old man that was contaminated with a chemical irritant. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at scene and released,” police stated in a media release.

Officers searched the area and ended up arresting two youths in a nearby neighbourhood.

A 16-year-old youth was released on an undertaking to appear in court in July and a 15-year-old was charged with breach of a court order. He was held and scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
